The momentum for the Sooners class of 2017 has continued to stay strong, but now we are approaching rare territory as the Sooners are starting to clean up on the 2018 recruiting trail after the commitment of 4-Star quarterback Cameron Rising.

With all of this in mind, we thought it would be a good idea to take stock of where the Sooners stand with a large group of prospects in both the classes of 2017 and 2018. Also we believe it is worth noting that none of the current commitments appear to be wavering or on the verge of a de-commitment. So with that in mind we will not be really overviewing any of the current commits for 2017 or 2018 in this post. So without further ado, here is the State of Sooners Recruiting Address.

3-Star LB Kevin Murray 6-2/210 from Missouri City, TX

This should be over Wednesday for the Sooners. Murray visited OU for the BBQ weekend and it appears to be all OU. Look for Murray to commit on Wednesday.

4-Star OLB K'Lavon Chaisson 6-4/220 from Houston, TX

This is one where the Sooners are likely out in front, as Chaisson is seemingly sold on playing a similar role to that of former Sooner Eric Striker. The main competition appears to be that of Houston. A Sooner victory over the Cougars should all but solidify the Sooners landing Chaisson. But again nothing is ever certain in recruiting.

4-Star LB Anthony Hines 6-3/220 from Plano, TX

This is one where the timing of Hines commitment is crucial. I think OU is absolutely out in front, but spots will start to get tight with the impending commitment of Murray and potentially Chaisson. All in all I think this a battle that not only the Sooners can win, but will win.

4-Star LB Jacob Phillips 6-3/230 from Nashville, TN

Phillips seems to have the Sooners out in front, but I will admit that Bama has his eye after they recently extended an offer. Again the Sooners can win this, but my confidence in it happening is starting to erode.

4-Star OT Adrian Ealy 6-7/280 from Gonzales, LA

Yes he has an LSU and Bama offer and that should be concerning. However, I don't believe either school is really sold on Ealy as a take at this point. The Sooners definitely are. The big thing is getting him on campus, as I think it could very likely result in a commitment.

5-Star DT Marvin Wilson 6-4/320 from Houston, TX and 4-Star DT Greg Rogers 6-4/305 from Las Vegas,

At some point OU will seemingly have to win out, but I'm not ready to pick either to be Sooners as I think that USC will be incredibly difficult to beat for Rogers, and I believe there is something about the Texas Longhorns and Marvin Wilson.

4-Star WR Omar Manning 6-3/200 from Lancaster, TX

At some point he has to commit right. I believe that he could decide at any moment and when that decision comes, the Sooners will be incredibly hard to beat.

3-Star DT Deiontae Watts 6-3/305 from Plano, TX and 3-Star DT Corey Bethley 6-1/270 from Katy, TX

These are the two players I expect to be Sooners on National Signing Day. While that might seem like a disappointment considering the Marvin Wilson and Greg Rogers options, both Watts and Bethley are no slouches.

4-Star DB Jaylon Johnson 6-0/170 from Fresno, CA.

It's impossible for me not to bet on a Fresno, CA guy that the Sooners really want at this point.

5-Star DB Jeffrey Okudah 6-1/190 from Grand Prairie, TX

Beat Ohio State and then when can talk

4-Star DE Joshua Paschal 6-4/255 from Olney, MD

The Sooners are lurking. They must have another huge season though.

3-Star OL Xavier Newman 6-4/285 (Texas Commit) from Desoto, TX

With the commitment of Creed Humphrey, Newman and the Sooners should be all but finished.

3-Star DB Kobe Boyce 6-0/170 from Corinth, TX (Texas Commit)

I believe the Sooners will continue to lurk around for Boyce, but I think they go all in with Jaylon Johnson, especially after the late addition to the 2016 class in Parrish Cobb. Boyce wouldn't surprise me either way

3-Star DE Taquon Graham 6-5/240 from Temple, TX

Just don't see him anywhere other than Texas.

4-Star DB Josh Proctor 6-1/190 from Owasso, OK

He will be a Sooner. It's not a matter of if, but simply when.

4-Star OL Darell Simpson 6-7/310 from Justin, TX

This one looks good for the Sooners.

4-Star WR Joshua Moore 6-3/175 from Yoakum, TX

This is probably an OU/A&M battle

4-Star DB Verone McKinley 5-10/160 from Carrolton, TX

I believe the Sooner win this battle in the end.

3-Star DB Patrick Fields 6-1/185 from Tulsa, OK

I would be shocked if he isn't committed to OU in the next couple months.
