The momentum for the Sooners class of 2017 has continued to stay strong, but now we are approaching rare territory as the Sooners are starting to clean up on the 2018 recruiting trail after the commitment of 4-Star quarterback Cameron Rising.
With all of this in mind, we thought it would be a good idea to take stock of where the Sooners stand with a large group of prospects in both the classes of 2017 and 2018. Also we believe it is worth noting that none of the current commitments appear to be wavering or on the verge of a de-commitment. So with that in mind we will not be really overviewing any of the current commits for 2017 or 2018 in this post. So without further ado, here is the State of Sooners Recruiting Address.
This should be over Wednesday for the Sooners. Murray visited OU for the BBQ weekend and it appears to be all OU. Look for Murray to commit on Wednesday.
This is one where the Sooners are likely out in front, as Chaisson is seemingly sold on playing a similar role to that of former Sooner Eric Striker. The main competition appears to be that of Houston. A Sooner victory over the Cougars should all but solidify the Sooners landing Chaisson. But again nothing is ever certain in recruiting.
This is one where the timing of Hines commitment is crucial. I think OU is absolutely out in front, but spots will start to get tight with the impending commitment of Murray and potentially Chaisson. All in all I think this a battle that not only the Sooners can win, but will win.
Phillips seems to have the Sooners out in front, but I will admit that Bama has his eye after they recently extended an offer. Again the Sooners can win this, but my confidence in it happening is starting to erode.
Yes he has an LSU and Bama offer and that should be concerning. However, I don't believe either school is really sold on Ealy as a take at this point. The Sooners definitely are. The big thing is getting him on campus, as I think it could very likely result in a commitment.
At some point OU will seemingly have to win out, but I'm not ready to pick either to be Sooners as I think that USC will be incredibly difficult to beat for Rogers, and I believe there is something about the Texas Longhorns and Marvin Wilson.
At some point he has to commit right. I believe that he could decide at any moment and when that decision comes, the Sooners will be incredibly hard to beat.
These are the two players I expect to be Sooners on National Signing Day. While that might seem like a disappointment considering the Marvin Wilson and Greg Rogers options, both Watts and Bethley are no slouches.
It's impossible for me not to bet on a Fresno, CA guy that the Sooners really want at this point.
Beat Ohio State and then when can talk
The Sooners are lurking. They must have another huge season though.
3-Star OL Xavier Newman 6-4/285 (Texas Commit) from Desoto, TX
With the commitment of Creed Humphrey, Newman and the Sooners should be all but finished.
I believe the Sooners will continue to lurk around for Boyce, but I think they go all in with Jaylon Johnson, especially after the late addition to the 2016 class in Parrish Cobb. Boyce wouldn't surprise me either way
Just don't see him anywhere other than Texas.
He will be a Sooner. It's not a matter of if, but simply when.
This one looks good for the Sooners.
I believe the Sooner win this battle in the end.
I would be shocked if he isn't committed to OU in the next couple months.
