We’re now 26 days away from the start of the 2016 season, and today we remember one of OU’s best plays in recent memory.
Damien Williams came to Oklahoma from Arizona Western College and made an immediate impact, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors and rushing for 946 yards and 11 scores in 2012. His most memorable moment as a Sooner came at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas when he reeled off a 95-yard run to break Bevo’s back.
Of all the notable plays during my lifetime, this is one of the highlights that I enjoy re-watching the most. His ability to slow down and accelerate between the 20 and 30 on this play still amazes me. This game was actually full of memorable highlights, especially Trey Millard’s hurdle (the one where he trucked a dude at the apex).
Williams was dismissed from the team before the end of his senior season, but he was fortunately able to land on his feet and is currently in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins.
