We’re 12 days away from the start of the 2016 season, so today we take some time to remember Austin Box.
Box came to Norman in 2007 after quarterbacking the Enid Plainsmen to the 6A state title game against Jenks as a senior. He was a phenomenal athlete who was recruited to play linebacker at Oklahoma, and he really came along as a contributor at the position towards the end of his redshirt junior season. However, tragedy struck in May of 2011.
The 2011 season would be dedicated to Austin Box, with a different player wearing his No. 12 jersey each week. You could tell when listening to the players talk about Box that they really respected and missed their teammate. I can’t imagine how his family must have felt after a loss of that magnitude. I hope they’ve found some peace in these last five years.
RIP Austin Box
