Oklahoma’s torrid pace on the recruiting trail continued on Wednesday afternoon, as four-star OLB/DE Addison Gumbs chose the Sooners over Nebraska, Texas A&M, UCLA and USC. Gumbs hails from Heyward, California, and is OU’s second commit from the Golden State for 2017.
Gumbs is listed by some services as a defensive end and by others as an outside linebacker. The bottom line, however, is that he is a pass rusher (and a prolific one, at that). Standing at 6-4 and 220 pounds, he’s a physically imposing player with a lot of speed. He’s long and tall enough to bat balls down at the line of scrimmage and is quick enough to put the moves on an opposing offensive tackle.
The Cali native is Oklahoma’s 19th commit of the 2017 cycle and is rated as a four-star prospect in the 247 Composite Rankings. It’s great to see that OU is able to continually pull in high-quality talent from California and that it continues to be a priority for the coaching staff. I for one am extremely excited about this commitment. The dude is going cause some serious damage coming off the edge.
