We’re just three weeks away from the start of the 2016 season, and today we highlight a diminutive running back who played for the Sooners from 2004-2007.

Jacob Gutierrez came to the Sooners from San Antonio as part of the 2003 class along with Tashard Choice and Courtney Tennial. After the arrival of Adrian Peterson in 2004, the other two backs in Gutierrez’s class transferred. Gutierriz stayed, however, and carved out a special teams role in addition to his duties as a backup running back. On Oct. 22 of 2005, he started against Baylor due to injuries and rushed for 173 yards on 30 carries.

Note: Please excuse the Dashboard Confessional playing in the video above. I didn’t pick the music.

Last we heard, Gutierrez was a firefighter in his hometown of San Antonio. He was known for being a great teammate at OU, and I’m sure that has translated to his current profession. It’s awesome to see former Sooners doing great things off the field!
