2016 Oklahoma Sooners Football Countdown To Kickoff | 52 Days!

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Oklahoma's 52-16 win over Iowa State last season marked the fourth consecutive game that the Sooners scored 50+ points and set OU into the final stretch of the season with an offense that was clicking on all cylinders. Quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 23/31 passes for 342 yards, and three touchdowns, in leading the Oklahoma offensive attack. Mayfield also added a rushing touchdown, as did Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon, as the Sooners produced an average of 7.2 yards per carry and 279 total yards on the ground.

The Cyclones were completely out-manned in Norman, with Oklahoma's defense holding them to just 16 total points and 374 total yards of offense. It was the first time since the 2008 season that the Sooners had scored 50-plus points in four consecutive games and while they would only score 44 and 30 points in wins over Baylor and TCU in the next two game, OU would return to the 50 point club in the season finale with a 58-23 win over OSU.
