Oklahoma's 2009 football season was snake bit from the beginning. A preseason injury had sidelined All-American tight end Jermaine Gresham for the year and in the opener, against BYU, quarterback Sam Bradford went down with a shoulder injury just before the half. The result was an 0-1 start to the season thanks to a 13-14 loss to the Cougars, in Arlington. However, the next week Landry Jones would make the first start of his Oklahoma football career and the Sooners would hum to a 64-0 blowout victory over Idaho State.
Jones threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns in the game, with Ryan Broyles hauling in seven catches for 155 yards and all three scores. You could say that this game served as the beginning of the football marriage between Jones and Broyles as both would use the other for record setting careers.
Oklahoma's defense held the Bengals to just 44 total yards in the contest.
