LSU Eliminates Georgia 4-1, Advances To Semis Against Oklahoma

Rich DeCray SBN

LSU struck for two runs early on Sunday afternoon and then rode pitcher Carley Hoover into a semifinal matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners.

A two-run homer by Bianka Bell in the bottom of the first put the Tigers in front for good, and even with Georgia cutting the lead to just a run off a Maeve McGuire sacrifice LSU never appeared to be in jeopardy of having to face elimination at the hands of their conference foe.

The Tigers added some insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings with Bell hitting her second homer of the game, a solo shot to center field, in the fifth and Akiya Thymes coming home off a Constance Quinn single in the sixth.

The star of the day though was Carley Hoover who protected LSU's lead from the circle by limiting Georgia to just three hits on the afternoon, and the lone run, while striking out five batters.

LSU will face Oklahoma in Sunday evening's finale. The Tigers must beat the third-seeded Sooners twice to advance to the championship series of the Women's College World Series.
