LSU Holds Off Late Alabama Rally To Eliminate Tide 6-4

Rich DeCray SBN

LSU turned a tight 2-1 game into a wide open upset bid thanks to a huge fourth inning that saw the Tigers score four runs off four hits. Tenth-seeded LSU saw four of their first five batters reach base safely to lead off the frame and then a Amber Serrett and Emily Griggs coming home during that span. After a pop out from Bianka Bell, Sahvanna Jaquish brought home two more runs with a double to left field.

Facing elimination from the World Series, the Tide mounted a rally in the bottom of the sixth that saw the score close to within 6-4. The rally started with a Leona Lafaele home run to center field and then was aided by RBIs from Chandler Dare and Kallie Case but opportunity would elude Alabama as Demi Turner would ground out to third, with the bases loaded, to end the threat.

Both Jaquish and Sandra Simmons had two RBI each for the Tigers. LSU will now wait for the loser of Oklahoma and Michigan for a Sunday afternoon elimination game.
