Ryan Spangler Invited To Play For OKC Thunder Summer League

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

Despite having the opportunity to work out for multiple teams before last week's NBA Draft, former Oklahoma forward Ryan Spangler has the opportunity to be the hometown hero for the local team. The Thunder invited Spangler to play on their summer league team in Orlando, Florida next week which will give the Bridge Creek native the opportunity to impress.

While an actual roster spot is a bit of a stretch for the three-year starter at OU, a spot on the developmental team isn't too far out of the question. Spangler nearly averaged a double-double (10.2 points/9 rebound) while starting every game during his sophomore, junior, and senior years at Oklahoma.

I certainly don't thing that Spangler has NBA superstar written on him but he does have the ability to be a terrific role player in the same mold of Nick Collison, who has made a living coming off the bench.

The addition of Spangler to Oklahoma City's summer league roster continues to show the progress of the Sooner Basketball program under Lon Kruger. Spangler joins Buddy Hield and Isaiah Cousins, who were drafted on Thursday night, as players drawing the interest of the NBA.
