Let's be honest here, kickers often receive little fanfare after connecting on a field goal or point after. On the other side of the coin, the kicker receives all the criticism for a missed kick at a crucial moment. With that in mind, I decided to throw some love toward one kicker whose career is just beginning.
It's not often that a freshman kicker arrives on campus winning two starting job. However, that's a feat Austin Seibert completed during the 2015 season. Drawing plenty of attention for the video below, fans continued to hold high expectations for the incoming talent. Taking over for the best statistical place kicker in school history, Michael Hunnicutt, certainly didn't help the cause.
Yet, as a freshman Seibert refused to disappoint scoring 124 points during the season by attempting 72 PATs alongside 23 FGs. With a leg like that, the future appears set for the Sooners in the kicking game for several years to come. Over time, Seibert may surpass the efforts of Hunnicutt to claim a handful of school records.
