Oklahoma's run through the Big 12 Baseball Tournament has come to an end with their second loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers. After an opening day loss to WVU, on Wednesday, the Sooners were able to work their way up through the loser's bracket by sending Kansas State and top-seeded Texas Tech home from Oklahoma City. However, the Mountaineers proved to be a team OU just couldn't conquer.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Saturday morning, Oklahoma saw the Mountaineers begin an onslaught of runs beginning with three in the top of the second. West Virginia added three more in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 6-1 lead and then capped off their run-rule victory by scoring a combined five more runs between the fifth and seventh innings.
The Sooners finish the 2016 season with an overall record of 30-27-1 in Pete Hughes third season.
