The West Virginia Mountaineers sent top-seeded Texas Tech into the loser's bracket, where they'll face Oklahoma in a Friday elimination game, with a 9-4 win on Thursday evening.
The Mountaineers took a 2-0 lead in the fourth and then regained their lead in the bottom of the six after the Red Raiders had tied it in the top half. Freshman Ivan Vera singled through the right side to score Kyle Davis and put WVU on top by a 3-2 margin. It was the first of several storms West Virginia would have to ride out as Texas Tech kept coming. The Red Raiders scored runs in the top of the seventh and eighth innings and each time the Mountaineers responded in not only matching them run-for-run but also increasing their lead until they ultimately ended the evening with a 9-4 win.
WVU will now enjoy a Friday off as they've punched their ticket into Saturday's semifinals. They'll wait on the winner between Oklahoma and Texas Tech to see who their Saturday opponent is and would need to lose twice to miss out on Championship Sunday.
