Series Sweep Eludes Oklahoma Baseball In Clarksville

Rich DeCray SBN

Oklahoma's baseball team won it's third consecutive weekend series to improve their season record to 28-25-1 but came up short in collecting a three-game sweep on the road at Austin Peay. The Governors scored runs in seven consecutive innings against the Sooners, including six in the fourth, on their way to a 17-7 victory.

After collecting a pair of wins in a Thursday doubleheader the Sooners were in position to do something they haven't accomplished since March 19, beat a team three consecutive times. Looking forward to this week's Big 12 Championship, in Oklahoma City, Pete Hughes went to freshman Dylan Grove for his third start of the season. Grove only lasted three innings and was on the hook for four runs off five hits. From there Hughes went to his bullpen often. A total of six hurlers came out of the pen with none of them throwing more than an inning.

In total Austin Peay racked up their seventeen runs off of nineteen hits. The run total tied for the most allowed this season by Oklahoma. The Sooners also gave up seventeen runs at Kansas on May 1st in a 17-6 loss.

OU has secured the fifth seed in the Big 12 Championship and will play fourth seeded West Virginia at 9:00 on Wednesday morning.
