Tulsa came down the turnpike for the NCAA Regional on a high but left Norman very much on a low late Saturday afternoon. An 0-2 performance was not at all what the Golden Hurricane were expecting after winning six of their final seven games and taking the American Athletic Conference Championship by a combined score of 10-0 in three tournament games.
Tulsa was held to just a single run in each of their two Regional games, including a 2-1 loss to Wichita State on Saturday that sent the packing. The fourth seeded Shockers posted two runs in top of the third, to finally put some numbers on the scoreboard, and then were able to keep the Golden Hurricane at bay until a bases-loaded walk scored Maggie Withee in the bottom of the sixth for Tulsa's lone run of the game. Leaving the bases loaded in the sixth pretty much tells the story of Tulsa's Regional experience. It's a tale of missed opportunity.
However, for the Shockers it's a shot at redemption. After dropping their regional opener to Oklahoma on Friday night, Wichita State will have a shot at earning a rematch against the Sooners if they can score a win over Ole Miss in Saturday's final elimination game.
