Recruiting kinda takes a back seat during this time of year, as school is finishing up and summer plans are being made. That doesn't mean however that the Sooners are falling behind when it comes to the class of 2017. In fact here are 5 prospects the Sooners are making some big moves with in as we head towards the summer.
1. 4-Star DL Greg Rogers 6-4/305 from Las Vegas, NV.
The big question that is yet to be answered with Roger's recruitment is whether or not he will leave the west coast. Rogers will make an unofficial visit to Norman this summer and with a good visit the Sooners could quietly become the team to beat for him. There is no doubt that USC is firmly in the thick of things (and if he were to commit today, I believe they would be the choice), but there is no denying the Sooners are a true contender for Roger's services.
2. 4-Star LB Jacob Phillips 6-3/230 from Nashville, TN.
The Sooners absolutely must hit a homerun in linebacker recruiting in the class of 2017, and it appears that they are moving ahead of a host of elite teams, including the instate Volunteers. Players like Phillips are absolutely necessary to be effective at running the 3-4. To put things in perspective, Phillips is already bigger as a junior in high school, than Dominique Alexander was for the Sooners this year on the field.
3. 4-Star OL Chuck Filiaga 6-6/330 from Aledo, TX
Filiaga's recruitment will be interesting to follow as he will be moving from California to the D/FW Metroplex this season. He will get every opportunity to shine as Aledo will once again be one of the best teams in the state of Texas. Filiaga is definitely high on USC, but look for OU to make a serious push now that he's in Texas.
4. 5-Star DL Marvin Wilson 6-4/320 from Houston, TX
This one has been a long time coming, but it appears the Sooners and Calvin Thibodeaux are making headway for the best player in the class of 2017. Wilson will be visiting the OU campus this summer, and it goes without saying that this visit MUST be ideal. While I still be the Sooners wouldn't be the pick if Wilson were to decide today, there is definite momentum trending in the Sooners direction.
