Oklahoma Sooners Claim Bedlam Series Over No. 12 Oklahoma State Cowboys With 3-1 Win On Sunday

Rich DeCray

As freshman pitcher Dylan Grove took the mound, the Oklahoma Sooners looked to finish what they started on Friday...a series win over the No. 12 Oklahoma State Cowboys. Claiming a convincing win in Oklahoma City, the Sooners dropped the second game in Tulsa setting up a rubber match for all the marbles. Quickly taking the lead, OU never looked back riding the momentum to a 3-1 victory. The effort marks the first time since 1998 that Oklahoma earned series wins over Texas as well as Oklahoma State in the same season,

With two outs in the top of the first inning, Steele Walker followed by Sheldon Neuse singled bringing up the powerful bat of Cody Thomas. Anticipation rose quickly as Thomas cracked open the flood gates in game one after driving one over the wall at the Bricktown Ballpark. With a swing of the bat, the former quarterback added two more RBI's on a triple giving the Sooners a quick 2-0 lead.

Unable to add to their lead, Kyle Mendenhall found himself working around the bases in the 9th inning. A double from Cade Harris pushed the second baseman across the plate adding a insurance run to Oklahoma's total.

However, the MVP award goes to the aforementioned Grove. Starting his first Big XII game of his career, the righty surrendered a single run to the Cowboys in the third inning. Grove now stands 2-0 on the season and could be competing for another start in the post season.
