Bedlam Baseball | Previewing The Series Between The Oklahoma Sooners and The Oklahoma State Cowboys

Rich DeCray

The Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys are set to square off in the Bedlam series starting Friday Night. Game one will be played in Oklahoma City at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The final two games of the series will be played in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the OneOK Field. Overall the Cowboys have faired well at each location owning winning records over their in-state rival at both the Bricktown Ballpark and OneOK Field.

However, the Oklahoma Sooners appear to be putting together a late run leading up to the Big XII Tournament. Over their past five games, OU has posted 54 runs while the pitching staff continues to excel on the mound. Alec Hansen, possibly the biggest arm on the field at any given moment, returns to the starting rotation on Saturday. That leaves freshman Jake Irvin as the starter on Friday with the Sunday starter yet to be announced.

At the plate, Sheldon Nuese reached 100 runs scored along with 100 runs batted in becoming the 40th player in Oklahoma history to achieve the numbers over a career. Knocking in 42 runs this season alone, Nuese has homered ten time claiming a conference topping .694 slugging percentage.

On the other side of the equation, Thomas Hatch who owns a 1.36 ERA along with 76 strikeouts over 86 innings of work gets the Friday start for the Cowboys. The two-time Big XII pitcher of the week will be followed by Jensen Elliot on Saturday and Trey Cobb on Sunday, all right handed pitchers.

Bringing the power, Dustin Williams drilled ten homeruns himself. Yet, the leader undoubtedly remains shortstop Donnie Walton. Owning a .355 batting average to lead the Cowboys, Walton has scored 34 runs to go alongside ten stolen bases.
