2016 NFL Draft | Sterling Shepard is a New York Giant and An Incredible Football Player

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants have selected Oklahoma wide receiver Sterling Shepard with the their 2nd round pick (40th pick overall).

While it was definitely possible for Shepard to hear his name called during the first round, this draft position makes sense. Shepard will be joining a wide receiver corp that features Odell Beckham and hopefully a healthy Victor Cruz.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Sterling Shepard ended up being the best wide receiver in this draft class. He can run all the routes, has an insane vertical (41 inches), and ran a 4.48 forty.

Even though he isn't the biggest receiver at 5-10, he excelled playing outside for the Sooners, but he should naturally transition to a slot WR.

The biggest strength that Shepard possesses is hands. He just flat out doesn't drop passes. Further he has ZERO characters issues and is the consummate teammate.

Shepard will be sorely missed in Norman, but we couldn't be more excited for him as he transitions to the NFL.
