Oklahoma won the opener of their series against West Virginia off the bat of Ben Hollas, in the bottom of the tenth inning, on Friday night and then racked up eighteen hits on Saturday afternoon to take game two.
Things didn't start out pretty for the Sooners after the Mountaineers plated three runs in the top of the first and then held a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth. Hunter Southerland sent a solo shot out of the park in the bottom of the fourth to give OU some life from the plate. Then a revival of base knocks began for Oklahoma in the bottom of the sixth.
After WVU scored two in the top half of the frame, the Sooners responded with three runs of their own in the bottom to trail 6-4. OU then pulled to within one in the bottom of the seventh, with a solo homer from freshman Domenic DeRenzo, and then blew the game open with a seven run eighth inning that saw Oklahoma send twelve batters to the plate.
OU, now 20-19-1 on the season and 6-8 in conference play, will go for the series sweep against the Mountaineers on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for Noon and the game will air on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
