Sports are so much more fun when there's drama involved and that's what Oklahoma's weekend baseball series against the Baylor Bears provided. The Sooners sandwiched a 6-1 loss on Saturday in between walk off wins on Friday and Sunday to take the series two games to one.
Trailing 3-2, in the bottom of the eighth, on Friday night, senior Alex Wise tied the game with a sacrifice that scored Steele Walker. Then in the bottom of the ninth Renae Martinez scored Sheldon Neuse on what was just supposed to be a sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third base. Instead the throw went up the first base line and the Sooners were walking off the field with a miracle come from behind win.
Sunday's rubber-match found OU in a similar situation where the Sooners used a two-run sixth inning to tie the game. After both teams swapped runs in the seventh and eighth innings, to keep the score locked up, the game would have to be decided in extra frames.
Back-to-back singles from Cade Harris and Ben Hollas, in the bottom of the 11th, set up junior Jack Flansburg to deliver Oklahoma's third consecutive one-bagger of the inning. Flansburg's single brought in Harris for the winning run and gave the Sooners a conference series win for the second time in two weeks.
Oklahoma, playing at Wichita State on Tuesday night, has now won six of their last eight games and is involved in a five team gridlock in the conference standings. The Sooners will travel to Ft. Worth to face TCU this coming weekend.
