Every school deals with players leaving for any number of reasons. This is true of Oklahoma today as Bob Stoops just announced that safety Hatari Byrd is no longer a part of the Sooners football program after being dismissed. He was in violation of team rules.
Bob Stoops said Hatari Byrd is no longer with the program and will transfer after the semester. #Sooners— John Shinn (@john_shinn) March 28, 2016
Byrd was a 4-star recruit out of the Fresno, CA area who chose the Sooners over offers from schools like UCLA, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Arizona State. In spite of his lofty expectations, Byrd never really was able to put it together in Norman. He lost his starting position last season, and had been expected to possibly make a position switch to outside linebacker.
Byrd's dismissal will open up a scholarship that can be used for the class of 2017 or possibly a walk-on.
