Steve Spurrier Jr. will join the Oklahoma football staff in an off field role. Jason Kersey of NewsOK.com reported the news with the following tweet:
Spurrier spent eleven seasons working with his dad at South Carolina and also worked with Mike Stoops when he was Arizona. Interestingly enough, Spurrier Jr. was a part of the Sooners staff from 1999-2001 where he coached wide receivers. He also has NFL experience with the Washington Redskins.
He will not be able to be on the road and recruit, but positions like these are invaluable when recruits visit the campus. The Sooners had in many ways lagged behind several other major schools in this area, as Alabama has approximately 20 people on their staff working in a similar capacity.
