For the second consecutive game Long Beach State posted two runs in the top of the opening frame, and for the second game the Sooners couldn't immediately respond. After two scoreless innings Sheldon Neuse sent a three-run blast over the left field wall to give Oklahoma their first lead of the day, but it didn't last long. Long Beach State extended its lead to 6-3 in the top of the eighth with an RBI sacrifice, from Tristan Mercadel that scored Brock Lundquist, and a throwing error that scored Garrett Nelson. The Sooners had opportunity to cut into the Long Beach State lead in the bottom of the 8th but came up empty despite sending five batters to the plate.
Freshman Chris Andritsos made his first weekend start for the Sooners and lasted four innings. He was responsible for four runs, allowed off four hits, with just one strikeout. Meanwhile Long Beach State's Darren McCaughan went seven full innings, allowing three runs off six hits.
The Dirt Bags registered eleven hits off Oklahoma's pitchers while the Sooners mustered eight. Oklahoma now stands at 5-9-1 on the season with the series finale coming up at noon on Sunday. The Sooners will be on the road for ten consecutive games following Sunday's contest.
