Long Beach State posted two-run innings in the first, third, and seventh innings and then also posted a single run on the board in the fourth to take game one of Saturday's double header by a final of 7-3. Starting pitcher Alec Hansen was credited with the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) through 4.2 innings of work. Hansen's season record drops to 0-3 and the Sooners fall to 5-8-1 on the season, ensuring they won't get above .500 before taking to the road for a ten-game swing.
Jack Flansburg hit his second home run of the season, picking up his fourth and fifth RBI, with a shot to left field that cut Oklahoma's deficit to 5-2, but Long Beach State was able to put the game out of reach in the seventh with the final two runs scored of the game.
Clutch hitting continues to be an issue with Pete Hughe's young team. The Sooners were 2-14 from the plate with runners on, and 0-6 with runners in scoring position.
