According to Bob Stoops, Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon has been suspended for the game against Iowa State. In the release from the University of Oklahoma Athletic Department, it states that Mixon has been suspended for a violation of team rules.
Mixon said, "I regret that I did not respond appropriately to parking attendants and understand and accept the consequences."
Welp, looks we’ll be seeing an awful lot of Abdul Adams with some Devin Montgomery and Najee Bissoon mixed in. Montgomery and Bissoon - both walk-ons - earned carries in Oklahoma’s 56-3 win over Kansas last Saturday. Montgomery scored a 10-yard touchdown on his first career carry. Also, could we also see Dimitri Flowers get some carries? Now is as good a time as any.
Another likely scenario is to see a receiver lined up in the backfield in certain instances. At times, Dede Westbrook has lined up next to Baker Mayfield as of late.
I’d love to know what happened between Mixon and the parking attendants, but we may never truly find out. For someone who is obviously on very thin ice with the team and university, he needs to make better and more mature decisions.
In any case, Oklahoma will miss the services of Mixon, and Thursday’s game just got a lot more interesting.
UPDATE (10:09 PM) - According to a report from Newsok.com. Mixon received a parking ticket this morning and tore it apart before throwing it on the ground in from of the attendant. That wasn’t a very smart thing to do, but I’d be lying to you if I told you that I haven’t always wanted to do that.
