Bob Stoops gave us some unfortunate news during his Monday presser, stating that linebacker Tay Evans’ football career is over. Evans has been medically disqualified due to repeated head injuries, and the decision came down last Thursday night, per Stoops.

Evans is a redshirt sophomore out of Texas powerhouse Allen High School and is the older brother of current starting OT Bobby Evans. He started at inside linebacker for OU against Houston and Ohio State and recorded 10 total tackles in those games.

According to Stoops, Evans has been offered a position as a student coach. He’s also been placed on medical scholarship, meaning he has the privileges and resources of a student athlete without counting against OU’s total.

I’m glad that Evans is able to stay a part of the OU family, but this just sucks so much for him, the team and everyone involved. He had a promising career ahead of him, but you just can’t take chances when it comes to head injuries. We wish him the best in the rest of his time at OU and beyond.

Update (5:02 PM CT): Tay Evans has released a statement.
