The Big 12 Conference has announced that it will hold a presser conference at 5:30 PM CT on Monday afternoon. The conference will feature Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby as well as University of Oklahoma president David Boren.

There is a lot of speculation as to what the press conference will specifically entail, but the overall theme will obviously be conference expansion. If I had to put money on it, my guess would be that they’re tabling expansion talks or scrapping it altogether, especially after this report from Dennis Dodd came out last week. Additionally, SI’s Pete Thamel has reported that a potential new wrinkle in the TV deal could be what derails expansion.
If this is indeed the case, I have mixed feelings. On one hand, if the Big 12 was using this as leverage to get a new deal, then props to David Boren. At the same time, they’ve already announced the intention to have a conference championship game regardless of what happens with expansion. I’m of the opinion (and I think most people agree with me on this) that a CCG with a 10-team league is absolutely silly (aside from the fact that it’s a lucrative venture), and I’m especially against the idea of having five-team divisions. Whatever, we’ll just have to live with what’s announced and count down the days until the end of the GOR.
UPDATE (10:43 PM) - It appears that BYU will have its TV people at the press conference, which certainly makes things interesting.
