While the Sooners will be quiet on the field this weekend, there are several interesting recruiting updates that are taking place off the field. Here is a quick rundown of what's taking place as the Sooners are off this weekend.

1. Dalton Wood

Here is a quick refresher: Dalton Wood was a member of the class of 2015 and never showed up. While possessing immense talent, many had just written him off, but like any good soap opera things aren't always as they would seem. His hometown newspaper is reporting that he will head to Norman as a walk-on in January. Wood followed that up with this on facebook:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">This is definitely interesting. Hopefully this ends well for Dalton Wood and the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Sooners?src=hash">#Sooners</a> <a href="http://t.co/SQ2rEgtyhb">pic.twitter.com/SQ2rEgtyhb</a></p>&mdash; CC Machine (@CCMachine) <a href="https://twitter.com/CCMachine/status/646921885842739200">September 24, 2015</a></blockquote>

Our Analysis: Wait and See

Nothing would surprise me with Wood at this point. While he is an immense talent, I would say that I won't believe it till I see it.

2. Devwah Whaley

After a visit to UGA, chatter started that Whaley was sold on being a Bulldog and the Sooners were slipping. When you couple this chatter with Jay Boulware's tweet we might be getting our answer regarding the Sooners status with Whaley.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Looking forward to seeing some HS football this weekend!  770 and 956 here I come.</p>&mdash; Jay Boulware (@CoachJ_Boulware) <a href="https://twitter.com/CoachJ_Boulware/status/646715965107912704">September 23, 2015</a></blockquote>

Area code 956 is Brownsville/McAllen, TX area which home of class of 2016 RB Trevor Speights 5-10/195.

Things change quickly in recruiting and this by no means says the Sooners are out with Whaley, but sometimes when you connect the dots, the writing is on the wall.

3. Linebacker Recruiting

Rivals.com analyst Blair Angulo tweeted out that Tim Kish was in attendance for class of 2016 LB Mique Juarez 6-2/215. Juarez is a consensus 5 star player and an incredible force on the football field.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Oklahoma?src=hash">#Oklahoma</a> inside linebackers coach Tim Kish is checking out five-star Mique Juarez tonight <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/OU?src=hash">#OU</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Sooners?src=hash">#Sooners</a> <a href="http://t.co/zrevom3C3O">pic.twitter.com/zrevom3C3O</a></p>&mdash; Blair Angulo (@bangulo) <a href="https://twitter.com/bangulo/status/647225151449202688">September 25, 2015</a></blockquote>

With 3 linebackers already committed and the Sooners seemingly at the front of the pack for Marvin Terry and Caleb Kelly, one would have to wonder where Juarez fits. I serious doubt OU would take 6 linebackers in this class, but you can't turn down a player like Juarez.  Another interesting note, Juarez (who is close to Kelly) was quoted as saying that Caleb Kelly was already committed to OU.

4. Class of 2016 Numbers

We have predicted approximately 22 players for the class of 2016. The Sooners currently have 83 of the allotted 85 scholarships for this season. Only 12 scholarship players will exhaust their eligibility at the conclusion of the 2015 season. With 10 current commitments and as of now only 14 open spots the Sooners find themselves in an interesting situation. The coaches are recruiting as if they will have at LEAST 22 spots for the class of 2016, but as of now only have 14 open spots. You do the math.
