For the second consecutive week an Oklahoma football player as been acknowledged by the Big 12 as one of the conference's players of the week. Last week it was corner Zack Sanchez for his efforts in OU's double-overtime win at Tennessee and on Monday quarterback Baker Mayfield was named as one of the offensive players of the week.
Mayfield connected on 32 of 38 passing attempts for 487 yards and four touchdowns, with no interceptions. He also ran the ball 13 times for 85 yards and two more scores. His combined 572 yards of total offense set a new single-game school record and were the most by a FBS player this season. His passing total was also the second highest by an FBS player this season.
Mayfield currently leads the Big 12 Conference with 1,062 passing yards and is averaging 354 yards per game which places him second in the conference behind Baylor's Seth Russell who is averaging 359. Mayfield and TCU's Trevone Boykin are tied for the most passing touchdowns in the conference with 10 each. The two shared the weekly award from the conference after Boykin totaled 504 yards of offense and six touchdowns in their win over SMU.
