Prolific. It's a word that we use to describe something that is insanely proficient and regularly produces well beyond the expectations. It hasn't been a word that we can use to describe Oklahoma's quarterbacks in recent years but Baker Mayfield is quickly changing that. The junior from Austin, Texas is quickly becoming a leader, full of confidence, who is able to rally his teammates around his undying energy and "can do" attitude. On Saturday Mayfield pulled off record-setting performance in the Sooners' 52-38 shootout win over Tulsa.

Mayfield completed 32 of 38 pass attempts for 487 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran the ball 13 times for 85 more yards, and two more scores, in a performance that is surely to be recognized by the Big 12, on Monday, as the conference performance of the week. With 572 yards of total offense to his credit, Mayfield surpassed Landry Jones' record of 554 yards (West Virginia/2012) for the most offensive yards in a single game in program history.

As staggering as his numbers were, Mayfield could have easily accounted for more points had fumbles by Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon not robbed the Sooners of two apparent scoring drives. Perine did deliver the team's strongest rushing performance of the season with 152 yards, and a score, on 22 carries. The Big 12's top rusher in 2014, Perine turned in a vintage effort on Saturday with a 6.9 yards per carry average.

For the second time in as many home games, Baker Mayfield set a school record, and for the first time this season Perine looked like the runner fans expected him to be. It was all done behind an offensive line that was banged up and without starting center Ty Darlington.

,Oklahoma's offense featured something else on Saturday that hasn't been seen in a while, a tight end being used in the passing game. Freshman Mark Andrews caught three passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

Position Grades

Quarterback | I think the only other thing that can be said about Baker Mayfield is that he had a 96.5 QB rating. Overall Grade: A+

Running Backs | Perine averaged 6.9 yards per carry, with Joe Mixon and Daniel Brooks averaging 4.6 each. The Sooner backs ran for a combined 201 yards but fumbles by Perine and Mixon will drop their position grade.   Overall Grade: B-

Receivers/Tight Ends | It was good to see Mark Andrews as a part of the passing offense and Sterling Shepard was amazing once again with 144 yards on 8 receptions. The supporting cast of Durron Neal, Dede Westbrook, and Jarvis Baxter was excellent as well. Overall Grade: A+

Offensive Line | All things considered, the o-line did a solid job but Mayfield had to do too much with his legs and the running backs struggled to find space between the tackles. Overall Grade: B-
