An 8-2 start for the Big 12 in non-conference play included some pretty impressive performances. They should be even better in week 2. The conference could be looking at either an 8-2 weekend or even 9-1. It's an important week for the conference as it goes up against two of the other four power conferences.

The Iowa-Iowa State rivalry and the Oklahoma-Tennessee game will be the main ones to watch this weekend. If Iowa State can steal a win from the Big 10, it could potentially help a Baylor or TCU at the end of the season if they run into a situation like last year. It's far fetched to think a Cyclone win will lock up a playoff spot for the Big 12 but it definitely won't hurt. The Sooners taking on Tennessee will play a bigger factor because of the perception of the SEC. If Oklahoma shows that they can beat an SEC East team just as easily as the SEC West teams can, it will greatly help the Big 12's resume come playoff time. A loss for both teams means the conference could be in trouble come December.
