It's time! Players reported to campus today and the Sooners will open fall camp in the morning. The Tulsa World's Eric Bailey reported that everyone "expected" to be there was actually there but that doesn't mean that everyone was there. JUCO transfer Austin Roberts was a no show and freshman Dalton Wood has been removed from Oklahoma's online roster.
OU spokesperson says "everyone expected to be here is here" in terms of players reporting for fall camp. #Sooners— Eric Bailey (@EricBaileyTW) August 5, 2015
Wood, a McAlester, Oklahoma native, bolted from Norman in the middle of the night on June 5th and hasn't really been heard from since. While there was much speculation that he could return when the team reported today, the fact that he didn't and has since been removed from the roster pretty much tells the story that his Sooner career ended before it ever began.
So...who is Austin Roberts and why is he not there? A 6-6/265 defensive end from N.E.O. in Miami, Oklahoma, Roberts was supposed to add depth to a position that honestly needs it. Unlike the Woods situation, there appears to be a possible happy ending for Roberts in the near future.
According to multiple reports, he is waiting on a transcript issue to be cleared up and is ready to go as soon as he receives the phone call. According to at least one report that call could come as early as tomorrow.
