It still hasn't sunk in that Baker Mayfield is the new quarterback for Oklahoma. After all just a season ago we thought Trevor Knight would be a four year starter for the Sooners. Fast forward a year later, and Mayfield has the job locked up heading into the 2015 season.
The former Texas Tech walk-on won the 2013 Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year award but sat out all of last season because of transfer rules and lost a season of eligibility too because he transferred from one Big 12 school to another.
Mayfield was the favorite all offseason, but no one was certain until Bob Stoops announced it last week. But just six days from now he'll lead the Sooners against Akron and hopefully start his junior season on a high note. His strengths combined with new offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley's air raid offense just should make for a great year statistically from Riley. But down in Norman, it's more about games won than touchdowns thrown.
Oh yeah, did we mention Mayfield can dance too?
