This time last year, almost every major analyst and preseason publication had Oklahoma in their projected playoff. This offseason almost no one has even had the Sooners in their top 15, much less the playoff itself.
But one of ESPN's most famous college football analyst predicted this morning that the Sooners would find themselves in the playoff as the number three spot. That analyst was none other than Kirk Herbstreit, one of college football's familiar faces due to his appearance on College Gameday. He also selected Ohio State, LSU, and Arizona State as the other teams to make it in. He had the Buckeyes winning it all this season.
He also projected Samaje Perine as a finalist for his annual "Game Changer" award.
Herbstreit was a quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes and joined College Gameday a couple of years after college. He's one of the most insightful analysts out there and is one of the most intelligent football commentators you'll ever hear.
This isn't the first time Herbie picked the Sooners when everyone else doubted them, as he was quoted saying before the Sugar Bowl that Oklahoma would "surprise people" with their performance against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl two seasons ago when every other analyst was predicting a blowout loss. The Sooners of course, went on to win by two touchdowns.
Hopefully history repeats itself this season, because once again it seems that all odds are stacked against Oklahoma. Can they prove everyone (but Herbie) wrong again?
