The MLB Draft began on June 8th with plenty of hopefuls hoping to hear their names called. Anthony Hermelyn's dream of playing in the majors became a reality on the second day as the Houston Astros took the catcher in the 4th Round. En route to the 109th overall pick, Hermelyn ended the regular season on a tear.
Hailing from McKinney, Texas, the junior led the Big 12 Conference in RBIs while starting in all 61 contests this season. The Oklahoma Sooners' coaching staff recognized Hermelyn's accomplishments on the field as well as his leadership qualities tabbing the catcher as a captain for the 2015 season.
Now faced with a difficult decision, Hermelyn could potentially finish his collegiate days with a .297 batting average over 174 plate appearances alongside 166 career starts.
Congratulations Anthony on your accomplishments this season leading up to the draft and being picked up by the Astros in the 4th Round!
