Junior college prospects scare me. It seems for every success, a team has multiple failures. That being said every school would be crazy not to go after several players each year as there is some serious talent each year in the junior college ranks. This year is no different and the Sooners are in on some big time prospects for the class of 2016 and already have a commitment from JUCO WR Ryan Parker (6-2/175) from Tyler, TX.
Here are the prospects the Sooners are in on and also some thoughts on how they might fit into the class of 2016.
1. OT Quinn Mittermeier 6-6/305 from Butler County Community College in El Dorado, KS.
Mittermeier is an intriguing prospect because if things work out in the classroom, he could reclassify and become a late addition to the class of 2015. We should know something soon on Mittermeier, considering he would join the Sooners most likely at some point in July if he were to reclassify. The Florida Gators are also in hot pursuit of Mittermeier.
2. OT Ashton Julious 6-8/330 from Lackawanna Community College in Scranton, PA
It's hard not to make the Phil Loadholt comparison with Julious, who is truly a mountain of a man. The Sooners and Baylor Bears are Ashton's biggest offers to date.
3. DB Maurice Chandler 6-1/190 from Miami, OK.
The NEO product has a Sooner offer and I would be shocked if he is not a Sooner on National Signing Day. I have had him as a commitment prediction for the last several months.
4. DB JaMarcus King 6-2/180 from Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, KS.
At this point, I know very little about the direction King is leaning but if I had to guess he will be heading to the SEC.
5. DB J'Marcus Rhodes 6-0/195 from Kilgore Junior College in Kilgore, TX.
The Sooners are definitely in the mix, but Rhodes place in the class of 2016 will most likely come down to two things:
1. Does he pick up an offer from Texas A&M?
2. Would the Sooners take a 2nd JUCO DB after Maurice Chandler.?
6. LB Chris Baccus 6-2/225 from Miami, OK.
Baccus doesn't have a Sooner as of yet, but with offers from schools like Arizona St. and Washington St. you can bet he is on the Sooners radar. Baccus might find himself having to wait for a Sooner offer, as the Sooners will most likely wait to see where they stand with the numerous high school players that the have offered at the position.
