On October 4, 1980 Oklahoma blasted Colorado's defense for 82 points in a blowout in Boulder. The Sooners racked up 875 yards with an average of 10.9 yards per play. Averaging 10.4 yards per carry, OU gashed the Colorado defense for 758 yards on the ground during the contest.
The Sooners led 34-21 at the half and, in typical Barry Switzer fashion, kept the foot on the throttle through the second half, scoring 27 in the third and 21 in the fourth quarters. Oklahoma finished the 1980 season with a 10-2 record. They beat #2 Florida State in the Orange Bowl and finished third in the final AP rankings. They were perfect in conference play with a 7-0 record.
