The Japanese launched a surprise attack on December 7th, 1941 bombing Pearl Harbor. While 20 American naval ships were lost, more than 2,000 lives were taken along with another 1,000 injured in the chaos. Following the bombing, President Franklin D. Roosevelt requested Congress declare war on Japan as the US entered World War II two years into the conflict.

Now, as we approach the 74th anniversary of the event, the Oklahoma Sooners and Villanova Wildcats will descend on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for a basketball matchup set to tip at 6 PM CST. FOX Sports 1 is set to carry coverage of the game as a part of the network's four-day remembrance.

Villanova secured a No. 1 Seed in the NCAA Tournament after a few fortunate events and posting a 32-2 season to claim the conference crown. The Sooners earned a No. 3 Seed under the Wildcats with the potential of meeting in the Elite 8. However, both programs failed to advance allowing another powerhouse to set in the gap.

Regardless, Nova owns a 2-1 record over Oklahoma picking up a home win as well as a win in Norman during the 2006-07 season. The only loss was suffered in the 1988 NCAA Tournament as the two squared off in the Elite 8 on a neutral court.
