The Oklahoma Sooners held their opponent scoreless in Norman on Tuesday evening through six innings with Adam Choplick on the mound. During that stretch the left-hand pitcher recorded a career high 10 strikeouts to a single walk. However, the ORU Golden Eagles managed to hit off Choplick four times including two singles to start the game. With the decision to pull the starter in favor of the bullpen, ORU Golden Eagles finally found a way to cross home plate.
Audie Afenir got things rolling with a leadoff double in the top of the seventh inning. Quickly following the momentum builder, the Golden Eagles opted to exploit a weakness of their opponent by bunting down the third base line. Moving in, Joshua Ake mishandled the grab allowing Afenir to advance to third and Rolando Martinez to secure a spot on first.
All it took was a base hit from Emmanuel Forcier to break the scoreless tie as ORU struck first. With the gate standing wide open, Matt Whatley's hopper down towards third base pushed two more runs across the plate as the Golden Eagles held a 3-0 lead. Unfortunately for Sooner fans, the visitors added yet another run in the top of the 8th inning to stretch their lead by one.
Unable to answer back in the bottom of the 7th inning, the Sooners would finally remove the zero from the scoreboard as Chris Shaw drove in Ake off a single up the middle. Making some noise, Oklahoma loaded the bases only to fall victim to a strikeout ending the inning.
ORU now owns a three game winning streak against the Sooners.
