The last time an Oklahoma hurler picked up a weekly honor from the Big 12 Conference was in 2013 when Jonathon Gray and Dillon Overton were leading the team to the NCAA Super Regionals. On Monday that dry streak came to an end when sophomore Jake Elliott was named the conference co-pitcher of the week along with Baylor's Sean Spicer.

In Oklahoma's season opener, against Notre Dame, Elliott struck out four batters and gave up just two hits during seven scoreless-innings of work. The Sooners won 6-1 over the Irish as Elliott delivered the best performance by an OU pitcher over the weekend.

Elliott, 6-7/220, is a sophomore from Coppell, Texas. Last season he threw a 3.56 ERA over the course of eleven starts but was also strapped with a 2-3 season record. Last week he was tabbed as the day one starter making him Oklahoma's top candidate to be the ace of the staff.
