Lincoln Riley "Absolutely Not" A Candidate For North Texas Vacancy

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

On Friday morning, multiple sources released info stating Lincoln Riley sat down with Rick Villarreal, the athletic director at North Texas to discuss the head coaching vacancy. The most notable came from the Star-Telegram which reported the interview had already taken place. Initially, it appeared as though Riley was one of a few candidates being looked at from the Big XII Conference.

Later in the day, the University of Oklahoma pushed out an official statement for the offensive coordinator contradicting earlier reports.

Riley took over as offensive coordinator roughly six months ago after the program parted ways with Josh Heupel and Jay Norvell. The move revived a one dimensional offense now averaging 532.5 yards per game and 45.6 points an outing. If the trend continues upward, Riley likely lands himself in the conversation at a plethora of schools.
