Oklahoma Sooners Move Up To No. 3 In Latest AP Poll

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Oklahoma Sooners are once again on the move after dismantling the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater (finally, the Big XII can rest assured it has crowned "One True Champion" after the debacle of last year). Behind a comfortable win, most analysts believe the Sooners punched the first ticket into the College Playoff. While fans continue to wait for the final playoff rankings to be released after Championship Weekend, the AP Poll certainly likes Oklahoma as well.

In this week's edition of the AP Poll, OU rises from No. 5 to No. 3 with a little help from the Stanford Cardinal who knocked the Notre Dame Fighting Irish out of playoff contention. However, the No. 3 ranking reflects what the CFP Committee already agreed upon. The only question that remains is: can the Sooners hang on to that spot?

With three Big 10 teams now inside the top six, it may be a difficult task. The Michigan State Spartans and Iowa Hawkeyes square off not only for the conference crown but also a spot in the playoff. Will a win by either program be enough to jump into the No. 3 spot ahead of the Sooners? I for one hope not!
