McNeese State Cowboys vs No. 8 Oklahoma Sooners | Preview & Game Thread

Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

Heading into Norman, the McNeese State Cowboys will face their second top twenty-five opponent this season. Tipping off at 7PM on FSN, the eighth ranked Oklahoma Sooners play in front of a home crowd while Lon Kruger enjoys a fifth season as the head coach. The plate remains full if McNeese hopes to pull off the upset as OU returned the 2015 Big XII Player of the Year in Buddy Hield. In addition to Hield, the Sooners return 75% of the scoring, 69% of the rebounding, and 83% of the assists.

Although the Cowboys are coming off a disappointing loss, McNeese St. possesses the ability to make their opponent a bit uncomfortable. It will likely be Jamaya Burr, who averages 16.5 point per game through two contests, leading the way. However, a few new faces could enter the starting lineup.

A 6-7 transfer, Tevin Jackson, has only earned 32 minutes of playing time this year but is expected to start for the first time this year. He'll replace Craig McFerrin at the forward position. Shaun Johnson's rough start to the season continues to worsen as the senior suffered a minor injury. The injury leads to the potential of true freshman Jerren Greenwood earning a start as well.

In the previous two meetings, McNeese State fell short (1984 & 1987) as the Sooners hold a 2-0 record over the Cowboys. Join us in the game thread below as the action unfolds.
