The Oklahoma Sooners continue to build confidence and momentum heading into the gauntlet formed by the three conference front runners. However, injuries bring a few questions to the forefront of the conversation on both sides of the ball. Fortunately, those sidelined due to injury have another week to recoup while the backup gain valuable experience.
Against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Zack Sanchez suffered an ankle injury on the first play from the line of scrimmage. The outlook of the situation remained bleak as the cornerback was carted off the field. Returning in an air cast minutes later, the junior watched as Dakota Austin filled the void. Hopeful the corner would return sooner rather than later, Bob Stoops mentioned Sanchez as one of the players listed as "doubtful" for Saturday during his weekly press conference.
Next to Sanchez on the list, Stoops mentioned sophomore offensive lineman Jonathan Alvarez. A young but talented group, the line showed significant progress over the past several weeks as the rushing attack opened up. Now down one man in Alvarez who has five games of starting experience, how does the pass protection and rushing attack stack up? We'll have to wait in order to receive a more definitive answer.
Since we're on the topic of injuries, the news regarding Devante Bond remains the same. The coaching staff continues to site ankle strength and a lack of "pushing power" keeping the senior off the field.
