The Sooners have extended offers to 2 junior college wide receivers over the past few days. These players are Dre Massey 6-0/185 and Derrick Willies 6-4/210.
Dre Massey- Holmes Community College in Goodman, MS
Holmes has seen his recruitment take off, picking up offers from Florida and South Carolina along with the Sooners over the past week. Massey was committed to East Carolina (hence the Lincoln Riley connection) but failed to qualify. This should be a Gator/Sooner battle and if I had to choose today, I would pick the Gators. Massey will visit for the TCU game.
Derrick Willies- from Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, TX.
Willies is currently committed to Texas Tech over offers from ASU, BYU, Cal, Colorado, Iowa St., Mizzou, OkState, TCU, Utah, and Washington St. Not much is known of Willies interest at this point, but his eventually commitment to OU wouldn't shock me. As of yet he has not set up a visit.
While each of these players is immensely talented, I think these offers point to something bigger. Next season the Sooners will return the following at wide receiver.
Seniors
Jarvis Baxter
Dede Westbrook
Juniors
Jeffery Mead
Michiah Quick
Jordan Smallwood
Sophomores
Dahu Green
Dallis Todd
AD Miller
Freshman
John Humphrey
Then they will barring something unforeseen ADD at LEAST
JUCO WR Ryan Parker
Adrian Hardy
That is 11 scholarship players returning next season at the Wide Receiver position. These JUCO offers point to a situation where I would assume the Sooners will lose a player at the position before the start of the 2016 season. While that remains to be seen, I always see offers like these pointing to more than just filling needs, especially when they are JUCOs at this point in the season.
