There has been a ton of speculation regarding who would replace Jay Norvell. The problem is that getting any concrete coaching change information has proved to be incredibly difficult. Crimson and Cream Machine has done some digging (twitter creeping) and has come up with a list of potential coaches who could fill the vacancy left by Jay Norvell.
The twitter creeping was on OU running back coach Cale Gundy. You can go and see who each coach has recently followed, and when clicking on Cale Gundy's account, something interesting popped up. That something was 3 specific coaches, all of which happen to be WR coaches at other Power 5 schools. This would appear to not be a coincidence. Here are the 3 names and why they might be a fit for the Sooners WR Coach. Here is the pic of the coaches that Cale Gundy has followed.
DelVaughn is the current WR coach and passing game coordinator for the Arizona State Sun-Devils. DelVaughn has coached WRs at Wisconsin, UNLV, and Oregon State along with the Sun Devils. He was also special teams coordinator and NCAA rules representative for the San Diego Aztecs under then Head coach Jim Harbaugh. DelVaughn has coached notable WRs such as Nic Toon and most recently Jaelen Strong. He has also worked with Sun-Devil OC Mike Norvell (no relation to Jay) to develop one of the most prolific offense in the Pac 12. DelVaughn is a Los Angeles native and a played football for USC which is also his alma mater. He is 43 years old.
Dennis Simmons is the Outside Receivers coach for Washington State. Dennis has coached WR at East Carolina, TTech, and Cornell. He worked with new offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley at TTech. He played and graduated from BYU (1996 bachelor's and 1999 master's), where he was a 3 year starter at OLB. Simmons is originally from Memphis, TN.
Keenan is the current WR for the Maryland Terrapins. McCardell is a 17 year NFL veteran, and was the Washington Redskins WR coach for 2 years (2010-2011). He had ended his NFL career with some incredible numbers (16th in all time receptions and 27th in total yardage). McCardell is originally from Houston, TX. and is a graduate of UNLV.
While it's no guarantee that one of these three coaches will become the next WR coach at OU, it can't be coincidence that Cale Gundy followed them.
