Florida Softball Pounds Baylor To Open Women's College World Series

Rich DeCray - SBN

Baylor Head Coach Glenn Moore said that it may have been the worst performance that he's ever been associated with as a head coach. The hits started coming from Florida early and then continued on until the final at bat of the game when freshman Chelsea Herndon crushed the ball over the left field fence to run rule the Bears 11-0 in the 5th.

"I'm not sure what kind of pitch it was, I just know it was right over the plate and was exactly what I was looking for," Herndon said about going yard in her first World Series appearance at the plate.

The Gators opened the top frame by putting up three runs on Baylor and then added single runs in the third and fourth innings before exploding for six runs to end the game in the fifth.

Baylor starter Whitney Canion lasted 3.1 innings and gave up five runs off four hits to drop her season record to 31-11. Meanwhile Florida starter Hannah Rogers went the distance in blanking the Bears while only allowing three hits to improve to 27-8.

"It's a double elimination tournament and I have no doubt that we'll fight back," Moore said.
