The Oklahoma Sooners enter this afternoon with a 23-10 record on the line. After struggling from the plate, the offense came alive in a non-conference series scoring 25 total runs. Lead by freshman Sheldon Nuese and the efforts of Mac James, the Sooners look to keep the offense humming against the likes of the ORU Golden Eagles in preparation for a showdown this coming weekend.
Oral Roberts stands sub .500 on the season with a 14-16 overall record. Coming off a weekend series loss to Sam Houston State. Manufacturing runs for the Golden Eagles has not come easy as they lack a .300 hitter. Leading the team is junior infielder, Jose Trevino with a .283 average.
As far as pitching is concerned, Pepe Gomez sports a best ERA at 1.91 who threw a complete game the last time these two teams met on the diamond. In that outing, the Golden Eagles blanked the Sooners by a 3-0 score. As it currently stands, no ORU pitcher has recorded a winning record.
For Oklahoma, four players are batting over .300 with James batting over .400 on the season. Yet, the strength recently has been pitching. Behind a combined 3.08 ERA, the pitching staff has excelled because of the bullpen. The Sooners' bullpen is 15-2 on the season with a 2.30 combined ERA with 139 strikeouts.
