My Top Five | Best Oklahoma Sooners Football Wins | #4 - 2007 Miami Game

New, 5 comments

To qualify for the top five, it has to be a game that you attended in person. That said, what your numbers five and four?

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Date: September 8, 2007

Location: Oklahoma Memorial Stadium

Score: Oklahoma 51, Miami 14

Synopsis: It was a coming out party for Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, who threw for 205 yards and five touchdowns, while also a clinic in suffocating defense.

Bradford hit Malcolm Kelly twice for scores (23 & 24 yards) in the first quarter and then safety Reggie Smith returned a fumble 61-yards for a score in the second quarter to give Oklahoma a 21-10 halftime lead. Bradford would then find Jermaine Gresham in the third (6 yards), before hitting Kelly again (30 yards) and fullback Dane Zaslaw (9 yards) in the fourth quarter.

The Oklahoma defense held the Hurricanes to just seven first downs and 139 total yards of offense for the game. In comparison to the offense, Miami punted the ball ten times that day for 408 yards.

Why it made my list: As a kid who grew up in the 80's, I vividly remember the losses to Miami in 85 and 86 and then again in the Orange Bowl following the 87 season, costing Oklahoma a national championship. It was the first team that I can remember, "having OU's number," and in all honesty I had a lot of nervous jitters going into that 2007 game. Obviously the the result was fantastic for the Sooner Nation, but for me personally it was the first time I had seen Miami in person and the first time I had ever seen Oklahoma beat them. The revenge factor was off the chart with this one!

What's your number four?
